The Circuito Banco do Brasil Festival hardly gives us time to catch our breath after Rock in Rio (RIR). It is not, however, the musical feast that RIR is but it does still manage to pull in some big global names in the music industry. Held at the same venue on November 9th the festival joins music with sport and art.
The biggest draw of the festival will be the Red Hot Chili Peppers. These giants of rock have seen it all, from drug addiction and the death of their original guitarist to international fame and stardom. Their latest album “I’m With You” was released in 2011 after a break of five years since “Stadium Acardium” and reached the number one spot in 18 countries.
Supporting the headline act will be the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Titãs and A Banca. Lead by the enigmatic Karen O, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are one of the leading lights in the New York indie scene.
But it’s not all about the music. There will also be a skateboarding competition held during the day; the Copa Brasil de Skate Vertical. 30 of the leading names in Brazilian skateboarding will battle it out for a prize of R$10,000.
Banco do Brasil is a big investor in culture so it is no surprise to see an art gallery as part of the entertainment on offer. There will be interactive projections inspired by impressionist artists and the graphic artist Escher. Visitors will be able to interact through moving their arms.
